Catherine J. Huang, a graduating senior at Grand Blanc High School, has been named one of approximately 4,500 candidates in the 2019 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. These candidates were selected from nearly 3.6 million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in 2019. Inclusion in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, now in its 54th year, is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities. Catherine participates in HOSA, Quiz Bowl, Club Fingerprints, volunteers through the National Honor Society and enjoys participating in math competitions. Grand Blanc Community Schools’ Music Education Program Receives National Recognition For the Second Year in a Row

Grand Blanc Community Schools has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. The district was also chosen for the designation in 2018. Now in its 20th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Grand Blanc Community Schools’ Music Program answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for the music programs. Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
