January is School Board Appreciation Month!

To the Grand Blanc Community and Beyond:

January is School Board Recognition Month. We would like to take this opportunity to recognize the individuals who approach their volunteer work with extraordinary dedication to Grand Blanc Community Schools. They are Grand Blanc residents whose decisions affect our children and build our community. All of our Board of Education members have, or have had students in Grand Blanc Schools. Some are alumni themselves. They are active in building activities, sporting events, alumni activities and so much more, in addition to their attendance at meetings and workshops.
The Grand Blanc Board of Education is charged with making decisions that are sometimes difficult and often require sifting through a great deal of information. They contribute hundreds of hours each year leading Grand Blanc Schools and participate in professional development to keep informed of the latest trends in educational leadership. All of this is done on a volunteer basis and with unending enthusiasm. Board members regularly donate their time, resources and even their own money to the district’s mission.
Through their dedication, collaboration with other school district staff, and their governance and advocacy, they are building the future of education in Grand Blanc and across Michigan. Grand Blanc is the largest district in our county, giving them a leading role in policy decisions and allowing them to pave new roads in education.
This month, we encourage all members of the community to thank a board member. Take this opportunity to show your year-round appreciation for these dedicated leaders and begin to better understand how our school board works together to prepare today’s students to be tomorrow’s leaders.
The next time you see them at the school, the grocery store, or at a Board of Education meeting, please say “Thank You”.

Official Ribbon-cutting Scheduled for Remodeled Gym at Grand Blanc High School

Turf pieces that now fit together on the west campus gym floor. The remodeled gym in the west campus building of Grand Blanc High School will officially be opened in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 10 at 3:30pm . The near 10,000 sq. ft. gym was underutilized as it stood and now allows for teams, clubs and physical education classes to practice and train indoors in inclement weather. The project was identified as part of the Strategic Plan, which calls for underused areas of school buildings to be repurposed. The Grand Blanc Athletic Foundation (GBAF) and the Sinking Fund funded the project. In the past, athletic teams have had to rent space in off-campus facilities in the winter and spring. GBHS Athletic Director & Asst. Senior Exit Interviews at GBHS

The panel will choose only two Grand Blanc High School seniors to receive a scholarship based on this semester's Exit Interview participants, and they have a very tough job. Each semester, Seniors at Grand Blanc High School create "Exit Interviews" - it is a requirement of graduation that they typically produce and present in their English class - but some opt to also share their presentation with a panel of professionals. This serves to create another venue for students to expose their plans to objective influence, practice their presentation and communication skills, and it could also bring them a scholarship to help with their higher education goals. Grand Blanc Administrators often stop in to observe sessions, and the morning brought in Principal Fray, Superintendent Garner, Asst. Junior Interview Expo at GBHS

Over 550 students interviewed adults in various occupations in the day-long Junior Interview Expo. Volunteers from law enforcement, health, communications, business, engineering and more were waiting to answer students' thoughtful questions in interviews. The meetings were scheduled by GBHS Career & Technical Education (CTE) staff. Various colleges and universities were set up to answer questions, as well. What a wonderful learning experience for high school juniors as they plan for their post-high school futures. The interview process is a requirement for graduation at Grand Blanc High School.
